Tips For Going Back To School After Break: All breaks, but winter breaks especially, are relaxing and fun for students. They don’t have to worry about homework or tests and they can just relax. But all breaks end, and students must prepare to go back to school. Students might even feel ready to go back to school because it will give them something to do and work on. But getting back into the swing of things is paramount to a student’s success.
Breaks are usually paired with students eating differently, and most often less healthy, then their normal routine when school is in session. Students need to get back into the habit of eating healthy. This means having them go light on the junk food and eating more fruits and veggies. This will help them stay focused in class.
Exercise is not something most students think about while they are on break. It might be colder outside then most students are used too, but have your student go outside and exercise every once in a while. This could be as simple as a walk around the neighborhood. The exercise will help combat the stress of returning to school.
The change from students doing whatever they want to having to get back into an established routine may be jarring for some students. Have the students get back into their school time routine to prepare themselves for their transition. This includes getting to bed on time to get enough sleep, eating enough and at a regular time, and exercising around the same time every day. This helps the student get back into the mindset of school and helps them develop healthy habits.
Students need to set goals for their time back at school. This will help them get motivated to go back to school. These goals may be grade focused, such as raising their GPA. Or it could be social or behavioral focused, such as spending more time with friends or trying to cut back on sugar. Whatever the goal is, students need to have something to strive for.
Some students don’t get to see their friends on break, so catching up with them is a great thing for the student to do to get back into the mindset of going to school. But make sure that this socialization with friends does not interfere with their goals and grades for the upcoming semester.
Breaks can throw a student out of the school mindset, but with the right process they can get back into the swing of things with little to no trouble.
