Importance of students eating a nutritious breakfast. A good breakfast is essential for starting the day off right, but many people skip what is often referred to as the most important meal of the day because of lack of time. Students are especially likely to do this as many might opt for a few extra minutes of sleep. But if students skip breakfast they miss out on important nutrients and benefits that can help improve their day.
Because they have just woken up from sleep, students are dehydrated and lacking nutrients at the start of their day. A good breakfast helps reenergize students which then improves performance. A study shows that students who eat breakfast rather than opt to study reading or math for that time do better on assessments. Students also get the added benefit of increased speed, concentration, and problem solving skills. Eating breakfast is critical to a good academic career.
Eggs and lean proteins, such as turkey, and fruits are good things to add to any breakfast because they are rich in vitamin A and D and contain ingredients that help maintain healthy skin. These benefits are great for a student’s health in the long run, which should not be sacrificed in the short run.
Many students, especially teens, worry about weight gain. While many might be tempted to skip breakfast, studies show that a healthy morning meal provides essential nutrients that can be stored as energy, thus preventing over indulgence of foods throughout the day that might lead to increased weight gain. These nutrients also provide more energy for the student to focus. This leads to increased productivity which is essential for a successful academic career.
Energy is essential for the brain and body to function. Students may feel slow and sluggish because of low blood sugar in the morning. A healthy breakfast includes lean proteins, fruits, grains, and vegetables. These provide the student with most of the energy and nutritional benefits they need for the day. Fruits with vitamin C, such as oranges, simulates the brain and makes the student feel more alert. It will also improve memory which is essential to students doing well on tests.
Breakfast can drastically improve a student’s mood. When a student sleeps for eight hours they lose nutrients and they can become irritable when they wake up. When a student supplies their body with the energy it needs, they will be more satisfied and happy throughout the day. The nutrients supplied by breakfast will kick start a student’s brain and have them start the day with a good attitude.
It’s worth it to make sure that your student gets a good breakfast. It can improve overall health and well being, and helping them be more productive academically.
