“Tips For Students To Create School-Life Balance” Students of all grade levels, especially older students, find themselves juggling many roles at once. They are expected to be a good student, a good friend, and many play sports or other activities. Balancing these roles are key to academic success.
Many hard working students often prioritize academics to the point that they neglect other aspects of their life. This is actually bad for academics in the long run and for general student health. Students that do not have healthy relationships often feel isolated and without support, which can be detrimental to their mental health. And for those high school students that work the balance is even harder to find. In college and beyond the skills of time management and self motivation are critical to success in life.
Time management is a key component to this success. Students should make a weekly plan that includes long run goal setting and breaking big projects into smaller pieces. Students should also honestly assess how much time they waste and use this information to be more efficient.
Stress is a good tool to help motivate students to get work done. But this feeling can be taken too far and transform into stress overload. This might make the student have sleeping problems, headaches, or even panic attacks. Stress relieving techniques are critical for a student to learn and practice. These include getting enough exercise, and taking short walks in the sun to get vitamin D. They can also include relaxation techniques and positive self talk.
Studies have shown that perfectionism is not a healthy mindset for students to have, it leads to anxiety and low self esteem and is often fueled by the need for others approval. Insead your student should set high but reasonable goals for themselves. They should also strive to view mistakes as tools for learning and growth.
A student should still strive to maintain a healthy lifestyle through school. They should sleep regularly and make time for themselves by having fun with friends and family.
Managing multiple demands can be challenging, but there are a few things that a student can do to help themselves. Have them stay focused on where they are right now. Don’t let them focus on what they are not doing. In their weekly plan, have them make time for friends and family. Have them reward themselves when they meet a goal or stick to a plan. Also have them remember that they need to exercise and do other things besides school. Your student’s support system is important. Have them express goals and expectations to their family and also have them share their schedule with them so that they are not interrupted. It is ok for students not to get straight As all the time. Have them do the best they can and work to improve. Also have them make time for fun. A student also needs to learn to say no to new responsibilities and opportunities if they are already overwhelmed.
