“Tips To Help Students Stay Motivated All Semester” As semester long courses are coming to a close and finals are coming up, it is easy for students to feel discouraged and lose motivation amongst all the commitments they have. There are ways that students can lower their stress level and continue to stay motivated through the end of the semester.
Stress is a huge contributor to lack of motivation. Instead of having your student stress about all that they have to do, have them instead reflect on where they want to be in the future and why school is important for them. Have your stent make a list of their motivations and remind themselves of their goals when they feel down. Some students may want to have a good career, while others may want to be in a secure financial state. Whatever your students’ motivation is, make sure they know that every assignment turned in and test taken is a step in the right direction.
Many students procrastinate throughout the semester, but as final exams approach it is time to break that habit. Have them make a list of all major assignments and tests and have them give themselves ample time for each assessment. It might look like a lot but breaking up the work into manageable pieces helps them avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Remind your student that they are not in this alone. Their teachers and parents are there to help them. Have them form a study group or go to the teacher for extra help. Their family and friends can lend a helping hand when they need it.
Studying is hard work and many may be tempted to study until they are done with their work, but everyone needs a break. It is important to have your student make sure they are taking time for themselves. This can take the form of a night with family or a dinner with friends. Having your student take their mind off the stressor will benefit them both academically and emotionally.
It is important that students see how far they have come. Have your student reflect on their work throughout the semester and look at how much they have accomplished and learned. Make sure they are confident in their ability to finish strong. Staying motivated throughout the semester of busy classes and work is not easy, but make sure your student knows that it will all be worth it when they graduate and go to college.
The end of the semester is a busy time and many students lose focus, but with the right mindset they can finish strong with every final.
