High School Academic Success Habits That Will Lead To College Success

High School Academic Success Habits!  Many students struggle with the jump from high school to college. This is due to the sudden jump in free time. In college, students are expected to get everything done on their own. To make this transition easier students should develop several different study skills.

High school is very supervised while college is more independent when it comes to learning and studying. Colleges do have resources for students to utilize if they are willing to seek them out, but many don’t make that jump. For this reason students are encouraged to make at least one connection to a staff member or advisor so that they have a way to seek out help if they need it.

The biggest challenge for most high school students is regulating themselves when it comes to learning. Because of this, students are encouraged to build a plan starting with their weakest subject and build out an organizer to manage their time.

While some students think that the sheer amount of study time is important, it is more important to study effectively. Students should expose themselves to different study strategies and find the one that is best for them.

College life can be stressful and many students report problems with mental health. Students are encouraged to put down the books and take advantage of the resources available and connect with other students. This method can also be applied to high school students.

Study groups have many great benefits in college and high school. They allow students to solve problems collaboratively and hear different perspectives. Students are encouraged to form study groups to help them get through difficult subjects.

While many people think multitasking is beneficial, students who do other things while studying are less likely to recall information. So have the student avoid distractions while learning or reviewing new information.

Many students in college and high school forgo sleep for studying. But this is actually detrimental. Students should instead focus on getting enough sleep each night and avoid naps and caffeine before bed.

Students should find the study environment that works best for them. This should ideally be distraction free.

Scrambling to cram in assignments and studying at the last minute is not beneficial to students. Students should make a schedule and avoid procrastinating.

Soft skills, such as teamwork, communication skills, and flexibility, are more important than they seem. They are important because college focuses on challenging students and developing them in high school will help students get a leg up.

These skills are essential for college and high school success. And therefore, students should strive to develop these skills in order to be more successful.
