Strategies For Getting Into College

Strategies For Getting Into College.  College applications are a stressful time for all students, especially since lots of seemingly strange things factor into whether a student gets in or not. But there are a few things that a student can do to make the college application process less daunting.

One of the best things a student can do is start thinking about the finish early. This does not mean starting their application essays as much as thinking about what classes a student wants to have on their application and planning their high school track accordingly. Colleges also want to see challenging classes throughout high school instead of students just costing through their last few years in high school. If a student is not on track to where they want to be, they should consider taking summer classes to catch up.

While it is a good thing for students to challenge themselves, they should do so with their school’s offerings and their strengths in mind. Instead of just taking hard classes for the transcript boost, students should think about which classes look the best at their school and which best fit their path.

Students should have their choices narrowed down by the time they apply. This involves going on lots of college visits for them to get a feel for which college is right for them.

Many students think that there is no room for error to get into their dream school. But this is not true. Errors are fine because they add an authentic aspect to student’s essays. But students shouldn’t just hope that their colleges don’t notice their errors. Their teacher recommendations and personal essays should shine light on how they struggled to earn their grade or how it resulted in personal growth.

Colleges are looking for well rounded students, but students should choose their clubs and activities wisely in order to show the college exactly what kind of impact they will have on a college campus.

Students view a wait list as a polite denial, but this is not the case. Since colleges cannot predict how many accepted students will actually enroll, they will take students from their waiting list to increase their yield. Students should stay in contact with the college and maybe visit again to show them that they are interested and increase their chances to get accepted.

It is important for students to remember that there are tons of colleges, so it is likely that students will be able to find a college that will align with their personal tastes and goals. So students should just be themselves, and the colleges will come to them.
