Why Social Interaction Is Critical To Student Success

Why Social Interaction Is Critical To Student Success. It is already a well known fact that traditional, or in-person, classes offer many tools for students to interact with each other and their teachers. It is also well known that social interaction is critical to student success. This has not changed in the new platform of online learning that many students now experience. Social interaction in an online platform leads to increased student engagement, performance, and motivation. Students and parents must be able to have meaningful and sustained social interactions amidst online courses. This is difficult because many students have more than one online class and also have to balance family and work responsibilities. Many teachers have already gotten to work on how to implement these in interactions into an online course setting. They have isolated two types of social interactions that are paramount to online courses: Teacher-student and student-student.

Teacher to student interactions are the foundations of effective online teaching. Teachers use many different strategies to engage with their students. This may include course related discussion forums and live or recorded class sessions for the students to join or access. These sessions may have chat rooms or messaging systems with the teacher. In addition to this, teachers may provide recorded or live feedback on submitted work. Students can contribute to this by joining online discussions, asking questions to the teacher on these platforms, and sharing their learning with others. In addition students should also make use of the many opportunities that the teacher has given to ask questions and receive updates on their work to help them stay focused throughout the semester.

Teachers may also give a platform for the students to provide feedback that may help them to make the online course better. The student should make use of these tools.

Students should also be encouraged to interact with each other in these settings. These interactions often motivate deeper understanding and personal applications. Students should also not feel as if they are alone. They should share questions and successes with their classmates in order to obtain useful feedback. Students can also obtain help from other students in the class if they find a particular subject challenging.

Students should also take their group work online seriously. There are many spaces online for students to meet and work together. This helps develop the skill of group working that students will need later in life when they graduate.

Students need social interaction to learn online just as much as in person. Encourage your student to get involved with the opportunities that many teachers offer for this outlet.
